Following this year’s Railway and UAS Challenges which concluded with in-person finals held over the summer, we are pleased to announce that the 2022 cycle for the Challenges will open for new and returning teams to sign up for on 1 October 2021.
Every year, the Railway Challenge and UAS Challenge provides young engineers with the opportunity to develop their engineering knowledge, soft skills and practical abilities with a real-world project. As a result, participants gain direct experience of working in a team on an engineering project, making them highly desirable by industry.
Railway Challenge Deputy Head Judge Malcolm Dobell emphasises this point by stating that: "We are increasingly seeing past participants in quite senior roles within the railway industry. Time and time again, past competitors tell us that they look back on their Railway Challenge experience as the highlight of their training. For many, it allows them to gain competence towards their CEng that would otherwise be hard to get so early in their careers."
GKN Aerospace’s Technology Manager for Future Flight and past UAS Challenge competitor Furqan adds that: “We are starting to see students who are getting more experience in whole aircraft design, whole systems design, autonomy, machine vision, and these emerging technologies are really important to the future of the aerospace industry.”
If you haven’t had the chance to take part before or are looking forward to getting involved once more, be sure to download the rules for the 2022 Railway and UAS Challenges and enter your team before registration closes on 29 October 2021.
