Shape the future of engineering with two flagship IMechE awards. Deadline for submissions is 10 May 2026.

We're calling on engineers who push boundaries and drive real impact to step forward. Two of the Institution’s most important awards are now open for nominations, offering recognition for technical excellence and leadership in inclusive innovation.

Recognising impact across engineering

The James Clayton Prize is one of the most prestigious honours awarded by the Institution. It celebrates standout contributions to modern engineering, often demonstrated through a product, research project or experimental work delivered over several years.

Open to members worldwide, the prize rewards achievement with up to £10,000 and national recognition. Recent winners include Professor Hussam Jouhara in 2025 and Professor Tim Baker MBE for his work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Championing diversity and innovation

The Verena Winifred Holmes Award recognises engineers who value difference and use it to drive innovation. It honours individuals who listen, engage and create opportunities for people from diverse or underrepresented backgrounds.

Named after the Institution’s first female member, the award reflects a long-standing commitment to inclusion. The winner receives £1,000 and recognition for making a broader societal impact.
