In order to reduce the environmental impact of future vehicles, teams should identify which components contribute most to the total embedded carbon and develop a roadmap indicating how they aim to reduce this in future developments of their car.

Embedded carbon (or embodied carbon) refers to the greenhouse gas emissions generated during the production of the vehicle, from cradle to factory gate. This includes raw material extraction, supply chain processes and in-house manufacture. It is usually expressed in tonnes CO2 equivalent (tCO2e).
