In order to understand the public perceptions and attitudes towards the Oil, Gas and Chemical industries in the UK, the Institution undertook an online omnibus survey, interviewing a nationally representative sample of 2034 adults living in Great Britain.

The 2016 report can now be downloaded free from the IMechE website

Overall, the survey results were positive. Answers to all seven questions lie between neutral and slightly positive, (Fig 1). The general public also feel that government should support and promote UK Oil, Gas and Chemical industries.

We are collecting easy-to-understand case examples to be presented to the general public demonstrating how engineers in the field work towards safe operation, environmental responsibility, economy, energy and chemical security. Do you already have some good material?

The IMechE would welcome your contribution, please submit your case studies at ge@imeche.org.
