On 22 September, the Institution's Annual meeting was held, postponed from its usual position in May.
The 173rd Annual meeting of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers took place at 1 Birdcage Walk.
Observing all social distancing rules for England, the meeting convened for the presentation and consideration of the Trustees’ Report and Annual Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2019, and the appointment of the Auditors. The meeting was also reminded of the results of the annual elections to Trustee Board and Council that were announced on our website in May 2020.
Those present in the room in Birdcage Walk had the opportunity to speak at the microphone; those not able to attend were able to submit questions in advance.
President Terry Spall opened his remarks by acknowledging that “2019 was in many ways a landmark year for the Institution. We have seen a great deal of progress in so many ways as you have just heard, most notably in our financial performance moving from deficit to surplus.”
He went on to mention the three Governance Reviews, complimenting the Implementation Group tasked with taking forward the recommendations from these reviews and converting them into implantable solutions. He also recognised the significant progress made by the Council in developing into a much more effective body and the relentless commitment of IMechE staff, recognising their commitment to the Institution’s performance in 2019.
