Further to this Regional Final which took place on 23 April 2021 and was the first to use the Design Challenge Simulation App, we are pleased to share with you the competition results:
Poster Competition - Joint winners: Team 1 from Durham University and Team A from University College London, Third place: University of Hertfordshire.
Presentation Competition - First place: Team 1 from Durham University, Second place: Team B from University College London, Third place: Team A from University College London.
Design Competition - First place: Team A from University College London, Second place: University of Hertfordshire, Third place: Team B from University College London.
Peer Review - First place: Team A from University College London, Second place: University of Hertfordshire, Third place: Team 1 from Durham University.
Teams from the North East Region also participated in the Greater London Region 1st Year Final in order to practice their simulations and were judged separately to GLR teams with Team 2 from Durham University progressing to the National Final:
Virtual Competition – (North East Region) First place: Team 2 from Durham University, Second place: Team 1 from Durham University.
Joining Team 2 from Durham University at October's National Final, we are delighted to announce that the overall winner of the 2021 Design Challenge Greater London Region 1st Year Final is Team A from University College London.
Davide Migliorini, Engineering Team Leader at Aeristech and Design Challenge Head Judge commented that "The virtual GLR 1st Year Regional Final successfully delivered detailed evaluation of the students' work in an engaging environment. Well done to the Institution and the participating universities! Students were able to illustrate both their creativity and a strong engineering driven approach to problem solving. Submissions were of excellent quality and the teams' maturity and resilience throughout this year has been truly impressive."
Ben Hodgkinson, Technical Director at Red Bull Racing Honda and Design Challenge Steering Committee Chair added: "I’m very impressed at the level of engineering I witnessed during the event which featured some great innovations. The students have done themselves proud."
Well done to all the teams who took part in the 2021 Design Challenge Greater London Region 1st Year Final and to our sponsors, in particular Autodesk who were also involved with the competition judging.
Congratulations to Team 2 from Durham University and Team A from University College London who will be joining Team A from Lancaster University (North Western Regional Final winner) and Team 2 from Bournemouth University (Wessex Regional Final winner) at October's National Final.
