What is the Young Members Board?

Want to shape the future of IMechE? Getting involved with the Institution is an interesting and rewarding way to champion engineering in your area of interest.

The Young Members Board represents the interests of all the 69,727 young members of the institution, working to ensure that a young members voice is heard and considered in all areas of the institution. As you will see from the diagram below there is a broad cross section to be represented from membership accreditation, to industries and specialisms to geographical location.

What is the YMB?

It is IMechE’s national board for Young Members.

Vision

To ensure that the voices of IMechE Young Members, who are the future for Mechanical Engineering, are heard, listened to and acted upon.

Mission

To offer value to Young Members by supporting, developing and promoting knowledge, understanding and professionalism.

What Does the YMB Do?

Provides a medium for Young Members to represent Young Members.

  • Reviews issues affecting the profession
  • Provides a communication channel for Young Members
  • Holds training days and designs resource material for Young Members
  • Liaises with other Institutions’ young members (UK and world-wide)
  • Promotes Professional Development
  • Lobbies for change
  • Supports the regional Young Member Network
