LEGACIES

           

Legacies, both large and small, make a real difference to the work of Support Network. Leaving a legacy in your will enables you to give something back to the profession, and help support a range of fellow Institution members and their families at a time when they really need it. Your options

There are four main types of gifts:
  • Pecuniary legacy - a fixed amount of money
  • Residuary legacy - the balance of your estate after all debts, taxes, expenses and other gifts have been paid
  • Reversionary legacy - leaving a gift to Support Network whilst allowing another person to have the use if it during their lifetime
  • Specific legacy – a gift of value, such as property, antiques, shares, jewellery or paintings which could then be used or sold to raise funds

How to word a will

We recommend using a solicitor when making or updating your will. Suggested wording which can be adapted to suit the type of gift you wish to leave:

I give to Support Network (the benevolent fund of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers) of 3 Birdcage Walk, London SW1H 9JJ (charity registration number 209465) the sum of £ [and/or details of the gift of value] for its general charitable purposes.

I declare that the receipt of the CEO, Honorary Treasurer or other proper officer of the Support Network of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers shall be sufficient discharge therefore.

Or

I give all (or % of) the residue of my Estate to Support Network (the benevolent fund of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers) of 3 Birdcage Walk, London SW1H 9JJ (charity registration number 209465) for its general charitable purposes.

I declare that the receipt of the CEO, Honorary Treasurer or other proper officer of the Support Network of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers shall be sufficient discharge therefore.
