The prestigious award for Manufacturer of the Year was scooped up by McLaren Automotive at a glittering event last night that celebrated the best and brightest in UK manufacturing.
The largest annual awards programme in the UK manufacturing calendar is delivered by The Manufacturer in partnership with the Institution. The three-course dinner and awards ceremony was held at the Exhibition centre in Liverpool, where guests were entertained by the renowned jewellery retailer and businessman, Gerald Ratner.
The annual awards are dedicated to encouraging and promoting competitive manufacturing in the UK, and celebrating the very best in the industry. This year the event was the culmination of an intense four-month judging period: 28 experienced judges collectively traveled extensively conducing site visits in order to benchmark the companies.
Philippa Oldham, the Institution’s Head of Manufacturing, said: “The TMMX Awards are designed to help drive improvements in the operations of all the companies involved. Entrants get free benchmarking and professional advice based on an audit of their business. Manufacturing remains at the heart of the UK’s economy, and yet again this year we are delighted to see the vibrancy and talent at work in the sector.”
As the finalists waited eagerly to hear who had been crowned winner in their category, Ratner provided the after-dinner entertainment, offering words of wisdom to anyone who has experienced failure.
The announcements and congratulations for the evening’s winners culminated in a presentation to McLaren Automotive, the winner of the prestigious Manufacturer of the Year 2017.
