Institution news
It gives me great pleasure to once again welcome you to BMFA Buckminster for the fly off event for this year’s UAS Challenge; I can’t quite believe how fast the last twelve months have gone by since the last event.
Collaborating as a group to design, construct and operate an unmanned aerial system (UAS) while pursuing your academic studies is a significant undertaking and I must congratulate all teams for getting this far.
The UAS Challenge fly off continues to be a fantastic platform to show off your ingenuity, creativity and inventiveness and I cannot wait to see how you have turned your excellent designs into reality. No matter if it's on the flight line or during the formal presentation events, it's reassuring to see that the future of engineering is in good hands!
On behalf of the Organising Committee and the IMechE, I would like to thank our event partners Ansys and Babcock International and sponsors PA Consulting, Maxon Group, Qinetiq and Leonardo UK for their support, together with our partners ARPAS-UK, AirDropBox, Talentview Aviation and of course our hosts the BMFA.
It’s a good time to remind all participants to make time to meet with our partner and sponsor representatives over the course of this year’s fly off. This is a great opportunity to meet with senior engineers and get their advice, secure future support for your team and most importantly, to learn about placement and graduate opportunities.
It is my sincere hope that by participating in these competitions, you will gain valuable insights, practical skills, and collaborative experiences in the field of aerospace engineering that will prove beneficial in your future careers.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues on the organising committee and team of volunteer judges, scrutineers and safety staff for their time and dedication over the past year.
Finally, whether you are participating for the first time or are a seasoned veteran of the UAS Challenge, we hope you enjoy the chance to compete and show your hard work.
Happy flying!
Air Vice-Marshal Paul Lloyd CBE
Chair of the UAS Challenge
