Rosie Perkins interviews the WUT team ahead of this year's Formula Student competition.

Please tell us about your team, your role within the team and how you all met.

The team WUT Racing exists from a group of students from different faculties at the Warsaw University of Technology. We all met due to having the same passion, which was the automotive industry. There are two separate groups named Technical and Marketing. Some have more knowledge in marketing and then others have more knowledge in technical. Group work and sharing ideas is the key to success.

Why have you and your team entered Formula Student?

The team entered Formula Student because we believed that we all have great ideas in order to create a fast car. Not only did we want to create the car, but we wanted to compete with others and see the outcome of the entire build.

Formula Student is just a few months away now. Tell us about your journey so far and what you’ve learnt along the way.

There are many things that we have learned in Formula Student such as learning from your mistakes and each year we are trying to fix these mistakes. Weight reduction is key in this sport and this is where most changes are occurring in order to be more successful.

We’re really interested to learn more about your car.

Our car has a very interesting design. We are focusing on aerodynamics and on the motor itself. This year we are excited because we are going to turbo the car. This is very important because lots of planning has to be done in order to achieve what we are aiming for.

How did you come up with the design and why did you choose this path?

We came up with the design by doing research in the motorsport industry. Thinking in the racers point of view, it is important to be as quick as possible on the track. Each design is different as we know, and our entire goal was to stand out with what we create. Also with aerodynamics we looked into aerospace in order to have the least amount of drag and be the fastest around the track.

What element of the car are you most proud of and why?

The element of the car that we are most proud of is the cockpit. The overall placement of the driver is very important as well as safety. Overall, we believe that we did a great job on the cockpit, but we still believe there are ways to improve it, which we will keep trying to do.

What is it about Formula Student that you’re looking forward to the most?

The things that we are looking forward to the most are events and building our entire car. Building is the exciting part because this is where all ideas come into reality and something is created. Also, thanks to events, we are able to test what was built and compare ours with the other teams that participate in Formula Student.

And finally… Are you going to win Formula Student 2016?

Yes, we will win! WUT Racing as a team thinks positive in every direction and just as all other teams, winning is what we are aiming for.
