On the 26 June, Tom Owen, Membership and Business Development Manager travelled to Paris, France. This was a great opportunity to meet with the Groupe France Chair Mounir Mossolly at the TechnipFMC office in La Defense, Paris.
Mounir arranged a Groupe France lunch event, on the 26 June, to introduce membership and professional registration with the Engineering Council, through UK Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs). The session included representatives from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in addition to the IMechE Groupe France Honorary Treasurer Daniel Fayolle. Technip FMC hosted the event and a group of senior engineers and managers were present to learn more about Chartered Engineer and the benefits of joining the institutions.
Tom delivered a presentation to the group to introduce the history of Chartered Engineer, the role of the Engineering Council and PEIs. Representatives of ICE and IET presented on the local representation in France and offering to members. The session provided the attendees with a lot of information for them to consider and showed the importance of professional registration for career development.
Following the presentations, Mounir stated,” the IMechE has a long history of providing membership and professional registration to competent engineers. One of my objectives as the chair of Groupe France is to increase the number of professionally registered members in France. It was a great opportunity to have IMechE and other PEI representatives in Paris to support our ambitions.”
After a networking lunch discussion kindly hosted by TechnipFMC, a series of 1-2-1advice sessions for engineers at TechnipFMC seeking Chartered Engineer were delivered. This provided a great insight into the projects the engineers are working on and how this experience can contribute to achieving CEng registration.
IMechE Groupe France provides support locally through a network of volunteer members based throughout the country.
The next event in Paris is on the 19 October - "Present and Future Developments in Nuclear Fusion Power". More information on the IMechE Groupe France can be found on NearYou.
