The project will run trials of unmanned technologies to test in the final stage of transport of supplies to troops

The MoD is to call on industry and academia to put forward test technologies for robotic and autonomous systems for experimental trials with unmanned trucks for the British Army.

The official call, expected to be made through the Centre for Defence Enterprise later this year, will form part of a collaborative project with the US Army. The project will run trials of unmanned technologies, including autonomous trucks, to test in the final stage of transport of supplies to troops.

Peter Stockel of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory said: “As a part of our Innovation Initiative, the aim is to see what technology we can leverage from the fast-moving commercial robotic and autonomous systems sector.”
