Considered the world’s premier award in tribology, The Tribology Gold Medal is awarded to both teams and individuals who have displayed outstanding achievement in this fascinating and complex field.

Since its first award in 1972, The Tribology Gold Medal has been awarded to 49 exceptional engineers from 18 countries across the globe.

With the deadline fast approaching, now is the time to nominate fellow engineers who have dedicated their time, experience, research and efforts to the field, and recognise their achievements with the Tribology Gold and Silver medals. There is also the opportunity for engineers and scientists at the earliest stages of their careers to apply for the prestigious Tribology Bronze Medal.

The Tribology Gold Medal is awarded for outstanding and supreme achievement in the field. Professor Bharat Bhushan, considered as one of the pioneers of the tribology and mechanics of magnetic storage devices, nanotribology, ‘green’ tribology, cosmetic tribology and biomimetics, was awarded the Gold Medal in 2020 in recognition of his outstanding achievements, contributions and commitment.

The Silver Medal is awarded to engineers who deliver exceptionally meritorious contributions to the science and technology of tribology. 2020 winner, Dr Robert Ian Taylor, is no exception with his extensive research and contribution to the field.

The Bronze Medal is an encouragement award for tribologists who are either working or studying full time in the fields of friction, lubrication and wear.

There is still time to apply, so why not take the leap! Winning this prestigious award can enhance your career in many ways, from gaining personal confidence, recognition from your peers and credibility within the field you strive for.

2020’s Bronze Medal winner, ‘creative researcher and scientist’ Dr Gary Nicholas, has enjoyed a very successful academic career, making him a worthy recipient of the prize.

Previous Bronze Medal winner, Dr Daniele Dini, was enthused with their win, saying, “Winning the medal has helped me greatly in pursuing a research career in tribology. It is important to receive such recognition at the early stages of someone’s career – it gives you the confidence to believe that what you are doing and have done has made an impact.”

The encouragement which came from winning the prize has determined my career path.

Whether you want to celebrate the fantastic achievements of a fellow tribologist, or quite rightly, celebrate yourself and all you have achieved so far - now is the time!

The deadline for nominations is 31 May, 2021.
