Trustee Board
IMechE members are encouraged to attend the Special Meeting on 5 December at 12:00 GMT, where Trustees will outline their preferred option for the future of our headquarters and respond to members’ questions ahead of the vote.
This meeting forms the first step in progressing the Trustees' vision for a future-ready IMechE headquarters. The intention is to create a space that is welcoming, sustainable and inspiring, that respects our heritage, and that provides a home for our global engineering community. After more than a decade of exploring possibilities, Trustees have identified a preferred option: selling Birdcage Walk and relocating the headquarters. If members support the motion, IMechE will be able to focus on detailed development work and produce a final business case (FBC) informed by market reactions. Positive support would also ensure that Trustees are ready to act if opportunities arise that the FBC confirms to be in the IMechE’s best interests. It does not, however, commit IMechE to proceed in the absence of a suitable opportunity. This is not a sell-at-any-cost proposal. Given the importance of this decision, Trustees are keen to gather views from as many members as possible. During the Special Meeting on 5 December at 12:00 GMT, Trustees will present the resolution, explain the rationale and decision-making process, answer questions, and listen to members’ perspectives before the vote.
