After the success of the India Branch, Southern Asia Region and the on-going international photograph competition, there has been an aspiration among young members to participate in more online events. In order to cater to our members’ expectations, the Southern Asia Region will be conducting the first ever Video competition for its members. The competition is open to all IMechE members in the Southern Asia Region (all grades).
The theme for this competition is the current IMechE President Jon Hilton’s Presidential message: “Engineering your own future”.
Participants are expected to submit a 2 minute video to explain their plan to engineer their own future. The video should contain what they feel is an important part of their future career as an engineering professional and how they will achieve it.
You may want to be serious, artistic, or have fun. Make us want to watch your video, and award you the 1st prize for your plan to engineer your future.
Prizes
The winner of the competition will be given an all-expenses paid trip to attend a regional or an inter-regional event. Details of the event will be shared shortly.
Deadline
All submission should be made by midnight 30 September 2016.
Judging
Submissions will be judged by a panel of judges appointed by the Southern Asia Region Chairman and would include professionals from various engineering fields and media industries. Members of the judging panel will consider the following criteria in making their decision:
- Creativity: In the content selection and presentation
- Engagement: Anticipated breadth of public appeal and interest
- Communication: Effectiveness in describing an idea and its feasibility
The decisions of the judging panel is final.
Participants are expected to email a Dropbox link to the video or use other file sharing services like WeTransfer etc. All submissions are to be made via email to the Southern Asia Administrator. Every submission will be sent a confirmation email to confirm receipt of the video.
Sam Perera, Southern Asia Regional Chair says: " The idea behind the video competition is to get senior engineers to plan a hobby for retirement and the young engineers to think about how they are going to engineer their career and their ability to communicate that in an engaging manner".
