This 1:12-scale model created by the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers’ (REME) 34 Central Workshop is on display at One Birdcage Walk.

The FV 106 Samson armoured recovery vehicle (ARV) was designed and produced in the 1970s to recover damaged light armoured vehicles in areas of combat. The Samson would be manned by three REME crew.

The Samson has a 3.5-tonne capstan winch which allows it to recover vehicles up to 12 tonnes in weight. A hinged manually operated spade anchor is fitted at the rear to aid in recovery operations.

The model’s display stand at One Birdcage Walk is made from the same armoured aluminium as the Samson itself.

A 3600 view of the model can be viewed in IMechE's Virtual Archive.
