The Western Panel of IMechE India Branch has been active in last couple of months and had organised an array of events in the Pune, Mumbai and Nashik areas, for the benefit of IMechE Engineers, including Members and Student members.
The activities included the formation of the student chapter in AISSMS College of Engineering, Pune (AISSMSCOE)">Street Play on Water conservation at AISSMS COE by the newly formed student chapter; an industrial visit to Mahindra & Mahindra's Nashik plant and an interactive session with Engineering students at AISSMSCOE
Students Chapter at AISSMSCOE, Pune: street play on water conservation and engineers' interactive session
In conjuction with the technical day at AISSMS college of engineering, Pune, wherein, engineering students from across India participated in event, IMechE Western India Panel and Automotive Divisional Group was successful in forming a student chapter in Pune city, the “mecca”of Automobiles.
More than 234 students showed interest and primarily signed up for student chapter. All these students are now completing the online process. The India Branch team of Mahesh Shinde, Manasi Mone, Prabal Sharma and Alisha Fernandes oversaw the successful event. This was substantiated by manning an IMechE kiosk at the venue for two days. The AISSMSCOE faculty, consisting of Prinicipal Dr. Danao, Prof. AV Waghmare & Prof. Nitin Mawale, were very instrumental and provided full support for these activities. The ceremony was graced by Pune Muncipal Commissioner and attracted publicity in local newspapers, as well.

The function was extended into a street play on water conservation by the newly formed Student chapter. This was followed up by an interactive session for engineers, conducted by Mahesh Shinde, Secretary for IMechE India Branch. Breadth of topics including general engineering aspects, the role of student chapter and technology, all of which were discussed during the session.
Prof. Waghmare the student chapter's Academic Liaison Officer and Head of Department of Mechanical Enginnering and other faculty membersparticipated and provided valuable guidance to the students. The overall enthusiasm and energy of these potential volunteers was overwhelming and will definitely boost the Institution's presence in Pune and the wider Western area.
Mahindra & Mahindra , Nasik Visit
Further commendable work for the development of engineer Members and students from Mumbai, Pune and Nashik was held in the form of an inaugural visit to Mahindra & Mahindra Nashik Automotive plant. This was organised by the Western Panel and Automotive Panel in Pune. The participants were provided with Lunch, Snacks and food for thought.
Dilip Chawathe, Chair of the IMechE Western Panel, played a pivotal role in organising this. The complexity was in logistics, as Members and students from both Mumbai and Pune were taken by arranged transport and seamlessly arrived at the plant. The visit was highly successful and the reactions of members were from "simply awed" to "exhilaration". It was a classic case of imparting practical knowledge to substantiate theory.
With such activities on a regular basis and posse of new volunteers, the India are sure to come out with flying colors for the Institution.;
