The annual refresh of the Railway Division Board is approaching - there are three vacancies for Ordinary Members of the Board.

These vacancies are for three years; any Corporate Railway Division Member can nominate to fill these vacancies.

The following nominations have already been received from RD Board members:

Tim Burleigh

Tim is Head of External Relations at Eversholt Rail Group, one of the UK’s leading rolling stock companies. He is responsible for the establishment and development of strategic relationships with national and regional transport authorities, passenger-facing stakeholders, Network Rail and other rail industry organisations. He plays a leading role in Eversholt Rail’s innovation initiatives, including the recently-announced programme with Alstom to adapt Class 321 electric multiple units to hydrogen propulsion. He is a member of the Steering Group for the Revolution Very Light Rail project, of which RSSB and Eversholt Rail are major sponsors.

Tim is a graduate of the University of Leeds, where he gained a first-class honours degree in mechanical engineering, and the Royal Military College of Science where he achieved a Masters’ degree in military vehicle technology, Tim is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Tim has over 15 years’ rail industry experience in key roles involving strategic business development and product planning, senior-level stakeholder engagement and leading multi-disciplinary operational teams. In addition, Tim is a member of several cross-industry steering groups responsible for developing and implementing the high-level strategies for the UK passenger rolling stock fleet, provision of the associated depots and stabling facilities and oversight of plans for the digital railway. Tim's rail industry experience builds on a successful early career in the UK land systems defence industry, where he undertook programme, project, technical management and business development roles in complex high-value national and international projects.

Rashid Wahidi

Rashid is Professional Head of Traction and Rolling Stock at Network Rail in the Chief Engineer’s team. His role has industry interface with the new train introduction as well as Chief Engineer's vehicle introduction forum. He is also responsibility for Network Rail T&RS and Entity in Charge of Maintenance activities.

Prior to Network Rail, Rashid worked in Booz Allen Hamilton consultancy in the rail transportation sector, and before that in Pakistan Railways' Fleet Operations & Maintenance.

Rashid has wide ranging experience in T&RS engineering, maintenance and procurement areas in UK and abroad. Rashid likes to contribute to professional development of engineers being active in several IMechE areas with the Centre Events Committee, Milton Keynes Railway Division Committee, Railway Challenge and as a member of the IMechE Academic Standards Committee.

He is a mechanical engineer and Fellow of IMechE having gained a BSc in mechanical engineering (Pakistan), followed by MS Engineering (USA) and MBA (UK).

Craig Young

Craig is Programme Manager for the Network Certification Body. He oversees the whole work bank and managing multi-disciplined teams delivering a range of assessment activities against Railway Group Standards, Technical Specifications for Interoperability, National Technical Rules and the Common Safety Methods for both infrastructure and rail vehicle projects.

He is a Chartered mechanical engineer with over 13 years’ experience in the UK railway industry. This includes six years developing design and project engineering skills whilst working within Network Rail’s (NR) Traction and Rolling Stock (T&RS) Engineering department.

Craig has been an active member of the IMechE Railway Division for 12 years, chairing the Young Members Committee for three years. He currently sits on the Milton Keynes Centre Committee, Prize Committee, Communication Committee, and Railway Division Board.

  • Support from two Corporate IMechE members of the Railway Division
  • Consent of the person nominated
  • Brief biographical notes of the nominee.

Download and submit the nomination form. If there are more nominations than vacancies an election will be held.
