Paul Smith, Chairman, PSG Board
Pressure systems are one of the most active areas of mechanical engineering. Learn more about what Paul Smith, the Chairman, says about the wide range of activities of the PSG and its Board, and how it supports the pressure systems community.
“Friends, colleagues, visitors - a very warm welcome to the website of the Pressure Systems Group of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. On these pages you’ll find out who we are, what we do and how you can get involved in this exciting sector.
I have been given the privilege of chairing this active and vibrant group, and am relishing working with one of the most eminent and active groups of the IMechE. Our remit of transferring and exchanging knowledge and ideas in the pressure systems industry remains as relevant today as ever - and I look forward to the challenge.
We have a packed agenda, including technical seminars on topics such as ‘lessons learned from failure’, and ‘updates to codes, standards and regulations’, and the annual pressure systems lecture on a topical subject, delivered by a prominent guest speaker. As always, we are proud to be associated with Strathclyde University, who continue to offer their excellent short courses on pressure system design and assessment.
Internationally this is an exciting time - as supply chains become global and the exchange of knowledge is at our fingertips. The pressure systems industry reflects this and is becoming more international in its outlook. We continue to maintain and develop our strong links with the regions, and a particular highlight in 2015 will be the 14th International Conference for Pressure Vessel Technology (ICPVT-14). This edition of the conference is being held in Shanghai and we hope to see many of you there!
We always welcome new members to the group and the board. Your ideas and input are invaluable in the exchange and transfer of knowledge so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and get involved.
This is a great time to be a pressure systems engineer and I look forward to working with you.”
