The Institution's President, Jon Hilton, recently visited Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). He was accompanied by Tom Owen, International Business Development Manager and Mathew Thomas, Chairman of the Institution's South East Asia Region (SEAR).

During the visit, the President was welcomed by the Vice Chancellor Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha. Both parties engaged in a 30 minute discussion on possible future collaborations between the two institutions.

After the discussion, Jon Hilton presented the IMechE Malaysia Branch Best Student Chapter Award, which IMechE UNITEN Student Chapter recently won, to Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Kamal.

Following the discussion with the Vice Chancellor, the delegates from the Institution were later given a brief introduction to the university by Associate Prof. Ir. Dr. Khairul Salleh bin Mohd Sahari, the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Academic). They were also introduced to the College of Engineering by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Izham bin Zainal Abidin, to the Mechanical Engineering Department by the Head of Department Ir. Hasril bin Hasini, and finally the IMechE UNITEN student chapter by its ALO Mr. Chua Yaw Long.

After the meeting with the university management team, the President moved on to deliver his presidential address, titled “Top Tips for What Matters to Employers”. The talk was held at the Admin Theatre, with over 40 participants. The event saw the participation of not only the students, but other distinguished guests from YMS officer bearers and UNITEN staff.

The talk aimed to provide the university students with a better understanding of what employers will look for when recruiting, typically the skill sets and also attributes of individuals which may aid them in securing a successful career in the future.

The talk continued with a Q&A session where Jon Hilton responded to questions from the attendees.

The delegates from the Institution were later invited to a light refreshment session where opinions and ideas were exchanged.
