MIA School of Motorsport

Running alongside and complementing the MIA School of Race Engineering, the MIA are offering a series of additional Online Modules, designed to help you better understand the theory behind specific disciplines within Race Engineering.

Vehicle Dynamics is one of the most complex areas of motorsport engineering, yet understanding the theory behind this subject can be the key to unlocking and optimising racecar performance. We have called upon F1 Vehicle Dynamics experts to teach you everything you need to know before hitting the racetrack.

The first of our confirmed tutors for this highly specialised module is James Knapton, Head of Vehicle Science at Red Bull Advanced Technologies. James has enjoyed a rich career in Formula 1, as the Head of Vehicle Science at Force India, Sauber and Manor F1 teams. Now, he works with Adrian Newey on the Aston Martin Valkyrie project in his role as Head of Vehicle Science at Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

You will learn:

  • Different types of suspension geometry
  • Damping characteristics
  • Ride modelling
  • What factors affect handling and stability
  • Aerodynamic considerations
  • How to optimise racecar set-up to achieve the ideal car balance

You will also get the unique opportunity to ask our tutors your questions during two live Q&A sessions.

So, whether you are pursuing a career in motorsport vehicle dynamics, or have a keen interest in this subject, register your place today on this exclusive learning experience and get ready to broaden your vehicle dynamics knowledge.

When and Where

This online module will take place on Saturday 5 September, from 11:00-17:00 (BST) with scheduled comfort breaks, via the Zoom platform.
