Nominations open for Chair Elect position on Institution's newest committee

The International Young Members Committee is calling for young member nominations for the Chair Elect position by 7 October

It gives me great pleasure to be writing to you in the capacity of Chair of the newly created International Young Members Committee (IYMC). The IYMC was formed to provide a dedicated platform for our ever growing numbers International Young Members to promote Engineering, the Institution and improve our engagement with existing members.

The IYMC is formed of our seven existing Regional Young Member Representatives, a Chair Elect and a Chair. While I have been honoured to take on the role of Chair during this first year, we will be voting in a Chair-Elect in the coming months who will take over as Chair from 2017, more on this below.

As a committee reporting directly to the International Strategy Board and with strong links to the Young Members Board our ambition is to continue to grow our offering to the International IMechE community by strengthening the ties between our regions and developing the network to deliver more opportunities to engage with fellow Young Members. The details of our strategy for 2017 are being worked on now and I look forward to writing to you to showcase an exciting programme of activities and competitions that we hope to launch at a truly international scale.

As we look to build on the strong foundations of all the hard work carried out by our International Young Member volunteers I encourage you to consider those exceptional volunteers for nomination to the role of Chair Elect. The Chair-Elect role provides a significant opportunity to develop and lead on delivery of these changes and I would urge all those whose share a passion for the International IMechE young members' network to consider it.
