Formula Student
The aim of this new event is to provide teams with the opportunity to discuss, present and evidence their approach to project managing the entirety of their entry to Formula Student. This is the first year which the event has run and is being used as a trial to explore the hypothesis – “if teams can receive feedback on their project management approach, this could improve the quality of teams attending the competition in future”. This event will focus on encouraging learning and ultimately getting more finished cars on track.
While Formula Student encourages students to learn and develop new skills across a broad array of subjects in the different events. Project Management ties all these events and subject areas together, recognising that although each of these have their own milestones, they all contribute to achieving overall project delivery. Project Management principles and practises are essential components in the end-to-end delivery of any product, ranging from building cars, to creating business’ operating models.
The event will be supported by expert judges from MIGSO-PCUBED. “As long-standing supporters of the competition, we are excited to be involved with the new Project Management event right from the start," explained Will Ashford, a Senior Principal Consultant at MP and former Formula Student competitor with the University of Hertfordshire in 2005.
"MIGSO-PCUBED is the world leader for Project Management and PMO consulting. With a team of specialists reaching across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, we have become the trusted delivery partner for the most recognisable brands around the world," he continued. "Working in the fields of aeronautics, defence, automotive, transportation, financial services, energy, public sectors, and beyond, we help our clients to turn their biggest ideas into reality. Dan Jones, Chief Judge at Formula Student commented: “the introduction of this new event is a fantastic opportunity for teams to demonstrate knowledge and skills that make FS competitors standout in the ever-competitive postgrad employment market. I have no doubt that some teams will blow us away with the professional approach taken to manage and deliver their project, we look forward to judging the entrants this summer”.
