Formula Student Team
MAHLE Powertrain sees the importance of Formula Student in developing new engineering talent. In line with this we are increasing our involvement in Formula Student, with 3 teams being sponsored and a larger presence at FSUK at Silverstone this year.
Our Northampton site hosted a round of sponsorship pitches earlier in the year and we were impressed with the overall technical level and ambition that all teams presented. Three teams were successful in securing sponsorship, and we are excited to announce new title sponsorship deals for Cardiff Racing and University of Birmingham Racing and a gold sponsorship deal for Team Bath Racing Electric.
Cardiff and Birmingham have seen impressive success in the past; Cardiff won last year’s FSUK event and Birmingham came in at second place. Both have ambitious development programs for continued success which MPT are excited to support. Bath Electric are a relatively new team but progressing fast in the emerging electric space and were the most successful UK electric team at last year’s Silverstone event. With industry experience around electrified powertrains, we hope to support Bath’s development as electrification grows within Formula Student and the wider automotive industry.
These new sponsorship partnerships align well with MAHLE Powertrain’s dual strategy for the future: growing electrification capabilities whilst continuing advanced internal combustion engine work. The teams are targeting top results at this year’s Silverstone event and MPT will help them in achieving their goals by providing access to extensive technical capabilities, experience and world-class facilities.
At MAHLE Powertrain Northampton, the new Real Driving Emission Centre is nearing completion to expand capabilities. The new building comprises a state of the art vehicle emissions testing facility with transient altitude and climatic capability. Vehicles can be tested on the 4 Wheel Drive chassis dynamometer under widely variable altitude, temperature and humidity conditions. The chamber is fitted with comprehensive exhaust emissions testing equipment to satisfy all requirements of all upcoming emission legislative drive cycles, including WLTC, Japanese and American drive cycles.
Follow the collaborative development activities as the teams’ progress towards the summer competitions and updates on the MPT RDE centre through social media and the next newsletters.
