Library service extends access to a range of new titles

Institution News Team

According to the Institution’s Head of Information and Library Services, Sarah Rogers, the library service has changed considerably over the last year.

According to Sarah: “There are lots of new ebooks and ejournals available, and a new library search facility, which allows you to search and download books and articles from any of the publishers’ sites we subscribe to.

“The recent library survey generated a lot of questions and recommendations; a big thank you to all those who took part. We are actively following up on the key suggestions for more standards, and seeking licences for ASME and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) publications."

During October, members will have trial access to the SAE Mobilus database which offers fulltext access to their technical papers (1906 to present), and standards (ground vehicle and aerospace).

Members using the library service can:

  • Search for books online without having to log in
  • Use the same login details as My Account to view fulltext items
  • Download chapters of books, or in some cases the entire book, to read offline – although not all publishers allow this
  • Use more than 25 calculator tools from Access Engineering to solve fluid dynamics, heat transfer and other engineering problems
  • Utilise the Knovel Data Search to find specific types of properties data for materials
  • Receive borrowed items in the post, no matter where they are in the EU
  • Search for journal articles online, and if the library subscribes to that journal members can also download them for free
  • Borrow a selection of BSI, ISO, API and ASME standards and receive them in the post
  • Ask the library team whether they can request and borrow standards held by other libraries
