Launching Ceremony of IMechE Student Chapter at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP)

Malaysia Branch launches its 17th IMechE Student Chapter

The IMechE-Student Chapter was officially launched at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in the presence of honourable guests, lecturers and students on 30 September 2016.

The ceremony began by a speech given by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni) UniMAP, Associate Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan. He shared the history of the Mechanical Engineering Programme at UniMAP which began only an enrolment of 69 students and now there is a total number of 392 students. He hoped that the IMechE Student Chapter will increase the awareness of engineering graduate students in need at all times to keep up their professionalism.

A welcome message was then given by Chairman of IMechE Malaysia Branch, Professor Ir. Dr. Ong Kok Seng. Professor Ong made clear the purpose and objectives of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He explained the journey of the UniMAP IMechE Student Chapter took one year and eight months for the successful of launch today.

Dr. Lau Ee Von, Secretary of IMechE Malaysia Branch, said that UniMAP is the 17^th IMechE Student Chapter formed in Malaysia. She also gave an overview and benefits of the Malaysia Young Member Section (YMS) and how the YMS Facebook could be used as a platform for studentsto keep in touch with the latest information or programmes offered by the Institution. 

The ceremony continued with the launching activities namely presentation of the launch certificate and handing over of IMechE pull-up banner.

Right after the launching activities, a short video was presented regarding UniMAP Engineering Students Achievements followed by the performance of a robotic arm and car by UniMAP Robotic Club.

Before the ceremony came to an end, Ir. Mathew Thomas, IMechE South East Asia Region (SEAR) Chairman, was invited to give the closing note. He spoke on the IMechE Awards offered and several competitions at national level such as Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE). He encouraged the UiMAP Student Chapter to take active part especially by the first and second year students so that this Chapter  would be sustainable into the lone term.

The ceremony  ended with a group photo and refreshments.
