Institution news
Are you seeking a volunteer position to share your technical expertise, develop your governance experience and support apprentices?
As a global institution and registered charity, our operations are governed by boards/committees. Join our new End Point Assessment Standards Committee as part of our commitment to adhere to the Office of National Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), Conditions of Recognition as an End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO).
About EPASC
The EPASC will be formed under the remit of our Qualifications and Membership Board (QMB). The overall purpose of the Committee is to act on behalf of QMB in its role of overseeing the formulation of all the Institution’s Qualifications and Membership policies. The committee will provide the rigour and questioning of the assessment, processes and outputs of End Point Assessment to ensure that they are robust and comply with Ofqual Conditions of Recognition and demonstrate the application of governance as an EPAO.
Within this broad remit, there are three main areas of responsibility:
- Sampling of completed assessment in accordance with Ofqual Conditions of Recognition.
- Reviewing the robustness of the assessment, identifying areas for continuous improvement.
- Identifying areas of risk in the development, delivery and ongoing development of End Point Assessment in order that they might be mitigated.
The role of committee member is vital in ensuring that our Institution provides apprentices with End Point Assessment which is valid, measurable and is in line with the high standards required to operate as an EPAO.
About the Committee roles

As an ordinary member, you will join the EPA Standards Committee for up to a three-year term. The Committee will meet formally at least three times per year, with at least one of these being a physical meeting.
In addition, for the role of the Chair we are looking for:
- Proven leadership skills
- Previous experience of volunteering for the Institution or another Professional body.
- Experience of Chairing committees
- Good communication skills and the ability to encourage involvement of all committee members.
- Attend and report to QMB to provide feedback on the activities and development.
As Chair, you will hold the post for up to a two year term. An interview will be required for the role of Chair with the QMB Chair and Director of Membership Operations.
Diversity and inclusion
We are committed to diversity and inclusion at the IMechE and welcome applications from all sections of the community. The IMechE is an equal opportunities organisation and wishes to ensure that its volunteers are equally welcomed into an inclusive environment.
It is important that members reflect the diversity of the Institution’s membership and employees. We are particularly interested in hearing from underrepresented membership groups.
