Over the race weekend, our marquee will be exhibiting our iconic vehicles for students and guests to enjoy, as well as hosting technical lectures, career talks and interactive activities - plus we’ll have free refreshments too! Jaguar Land Rover is in a period of unprecedented growth and has been Britain’s largest automotive manufacturer for the past three years, producing over 30% of all cars built in the UK. Last year Jaguar Land Rover sold 604,009 vehicles in 137 countries, with more than 80% of our vehicles produced in the UK being sold abroad. We are the largest investor in R&D in the UK manufacturing sector and have invested £12 billion in the last five years.
Manufacturing is centred in the UK, with additional plants in China, Brazil and India, along with and a Slovakian site currently under construction. We build 16 vehicle lines across these sites, including the ‘World Car of the Year 2017’, the Jaguar F-PACE. This growth is set to continue, driven by future vehicles including the hotly anticipated Range Rover Velar and Jaguar I-PACE.
The JLR marquee in the paddock will be hosting a range of fun activities, including our Virtual Reality driving simulator where you can test out your driving skills and try to earn a place on our leaderboard to win a bag of JLR goodies! The Land Rover Experience course will also have a designated area next to the marquee from Friday to Sunday, where you can experience the amazing off-road capabilities of our vehicles first hand. Our panel of judges will be making their way around the paddock on Thursday of the event to shortlist teams for our two awards; ‘Best use of Virtual Methods to Achieve Vehicle Targets’, and ‘Art of Performance’ which will consider both the function and design of a component/system. The shortlisted teams will be judged on Friday, where the winners will receive a signed print by JLR’s Design Director, Ian Callum, as well as a goody bag for each member of the team.
Throughout the course of the event, a mix of Apprentices, Undergraduates and Graduates from across Jaguar Land Rover will be on hand to answer questions about career opportunities, along with specialists who will be presenting lectures and talks Friday – Sunday (see timetable) on vehicle strategy, technical developments and Graduate life at JLR. Formula Student is one of our biggest student engagement events of the year and is a great opportunity for you to find out more about careers with us.
