The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has unveiled the Engineering Training Centre in Sheffield Business Park on Tuesday 13 October at a special event attended by Institution President Professor Richard Folkson and the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Talib Hussain.
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ new centre will become the principle training and examination centre for Engineering Training Solutions (formally known as Argyle-Ruane Ltd), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institution which is a global leading provider of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Inspection training and consultancy services.
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers was established in 1847 and has some of the world’s greatest engineers in its history books. It is one of the fastest growing professional engineering institutions. Headquartered in London, we have operations around the world and over 111,000 members in more than 140 countries working at the heart of the most important and dynamic industries such as the automotive, rail, aerospace, medical, power and construction industries.
Professor Richard Folkson, President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said:
“The launch of this new training centre is an exciting step for the Institution which will allow us to provide a greater number and better quality NDT training and certification.
“It also means we now have a new hub for Institution members in Yorkshire, with a member Business Lounge, as well as facilities for seminars and lectures. I’m looking forward to seeing all the innovative and thought-provoking work that will take place in these new facilities over coming years.”
Replacing existing offices in Sheffield and Rotherham, the expansion increases the teaching and learning space by nearly three times to 16,900 sq ft.
The building will house unique teaching facilities for a range of disciplines, as well as meeting and conference facilities and Level 3 Consultancy support. Alongside the training and certification operations, there will also be a business centre for the Institution's members as well a large lecture theatre for various seminars and events.
Argyle-Ruane Ltd was acquired by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 2012.
NDT is the application of non-intrusive measurement techniques that identify damage and irregularities in materials such as pressure vessels, storage tanks and other safety-critical components.
