In response to the announcement that £76m is being made available to boost capacity and quality of research in universities across England, Dr Jenifer Baxter, Head of Engineering, said:

“This funding provides a welcome impetus to develop new knowledge, technologies and skills that will enable scientists and engineers to overcome some of the biggest global challenges facing us today and in the future.

These funding units across such diverse sectors provides a strong foundation for attracting new entrants into engineering.

The importance of crafting new skills in these sectors should not be forgotten. We need to ensure that as a country this funding generates the competencies and diversity of ideas needed to overcome technological and social barriers in a positive academic environment and beyond in society changing lives and engineering our future.”
