Students gained hands-on experience with digital engineering tools through three events in India.
From digital engineering and AI to emerging aerospace research, IMechE's Aerospace Division India Centre has helped hundreds of students and researchers gain practical skills and industry insight through a series of events in Bengaluru. Working with the Department of Aerospace Engineering at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Bengaluru, members and volunteers supported a technical talk, a hands-on software workshop and a national engineering conference throughout May.
The programme aimed to give students exposure to the tools, technologies and ideas shaping the future of engineering. More than 75 students and faculty attended a technical talk on industry-grade digital engineering through Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Delivered by industry expert Karthik Gopal from EDS Technologies, the session explored how aerospace organisations use digital engineering across design, analysis, manufacturing and product lifecycle management. Students also learned how artificial intelligence is becoming part of modern engineering workflows.
The India Centre also supported a five-day workshop on kinematics and dynamics simulation using 3DEXPERIENCE. 23 aerospace engineering students gained hands-on experience with the same software used by engineers in industry. Participants developed skills in CAD modelling, assembly design and motion simulation before applying them to complex engineering systems. The workshop helped students move beyond theory and build practical digital engineering skills that will support future projects, research and careers.
The month concluded with the National Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering & Technology (NCETET 2026), delivered in partnership with the Aerospace Division India Centre. The conference attracted 65 research paper submissions from more than 17 higher education institutions and industry professionals across India. Researchers shared work on topics including aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, digital twins and advanced materials. Keynote speakers Dr Kishore Brahma and Ashok Aseri also explored the technologies and trends shaping the future of industry.
The events demonstrate how IMechE's international member networks help connect education, industry and research while supporting the next generation of engineers.
