On 26 March, IMechE Singapore Branch held a combined Technical Visit and AGM at the SIA-NUS Digital Aviation Corporate Lab situated inside NUS who graciously provided the venue free of charge.
Members learned how virtual reality is being used as part of pilot training and development of flight procedures, particularly covering abnormal and emergency situations which cannot be safely covered by in flight training. They also learned how data is being obtained from the passenger cabin testing and simulated flights to learn what enhancements can be made to improve our flight experience. Members noted how real the cabin felt and how they really seemed to be experiencing flight! Following a return to "ground zero”, the new Committee for 2024 comprising some existing and some new members were voted in via the good offices of the Elections Committee. The branch has held and supported four events so far in 2024 with the Student Chapter IoT Competition starting on Saturday. Chair Kogi then outlined the steps the Committee proposes to take with HQ with help and support from SEAR, to try to recover the branch finances in order that the student chapters can be adequately supported, as well as delivering a programme to all our members commensurate with the Singapore Branch Constitution. Thanks are due to Dr Chua Yaw Long SEAR Chair who kindly travelled down from KL to join the event and who is always doing his best to support Singapore Branch.
