The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has announced the sale of its trading business Sonaspection, a leading provider of flawed specimens for the non-destructive testing industry.
The sale follows a comprehensive review of the IMechE’s commercial operations. The review concluded that a more autonomous, commercially driven ownership structure would best position Sonaspection, as well as IMechE’s other former trading business, IMechE Argyll Ruane, to maximise their potential in the market. IMechE Argyll Ruane was sold in a management buyout last year.
With this sale, the IMechE can now focus fully on delivering its 2030 vision to become a global, inclusive and digitally enabled engineering community.
President Clive Hickman OBE said:
“Our focus is on developing and supporting our members in all the inspiring work that they do and showcase how engineers make a huge contribution to solving the global challenges we face. I am confident that Sonaspection, under new ownership, will continue to flourish and seize the many opportunities ahead.” IMechE’s members are at the heart of the organisation. IMechE is committed to supporting them in achieving engineering excellence and driving technical innovation. Their work enables the Institution to deliver on its mission to “improve the world through engineering”.
