Ben Kew has been awarded the Institution’s Tribology Bronze Medal.

Ben Kew has been given this award in recognition of his ground-breaking work in oral tribology and sustainable food technology. Currently a postdoctoral fellow, Ben leads research on improving the sensory, texture and mouthfeel performance of sustainable plant-based foods using biomimetic tongue like surfaces.

Ben’s career extends beyond the lab: he contributes significantly to the tribology community through leadership roles, outreach, and mentoring. As Chair of the STLE UK Student Chapter he supports early career researchers, and his public engagement includes events like Pint of Science and a custom friction board game.
