Mechanical engineers will continue to have strong representation in one of the UK’s most influential science and technology institutions.

IMechE Fellow and former Railway Division Chair Tim Dugher CEng FIMechE has been reappointed as a Trustee of the Science Museum Group for a further four-year term, running until 31 May 2030.

Engineering voice continues on national museum board

Dugher will help guide the organisation that oversees some of the UK’s most important science and engineering museums. The group preserves engineering heritage, shares technical knowledge with the public and inspires future engineers.

The UK Prime Minister confirmed the reappointment alongside Professor Stephen Belcher CBE.

Long career in rail engineering

Dugher brings nearly five decades of experience in the UK rail industry. He began as an engineering apprentice and later became Chief Operating Officer at Angel Trains Limited.

After more than 30 years in executive roles, he moved into non executive and advisory positions across the rail and engineering sector. These have included roles with the Rail Safety and Standards Board, Vossloh Kiepe UK and Porterbrook Leasing.

He now runs his own management consultancy while continuing to advise organisations across the industry.

Strong links with IMechE

Dugher is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a graduate of Aston University. He previously chaired the IMechE Railway Division Board and remains active in engineering outreach through the Institution’s local railway division.

Trustees of the Science Museum Group serve in a voluntary capacity and support the strategic direction of the organisation.

A major engineering museum network

The Science Museum Group includes the Science Museum in London, the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, the National Railway Museum in York and Locomotion in Shildon, County Durham.

Together these museums share a collection covering science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with more than five million visitors each year.
