IMechE chief operating officer James Hobbs gave an introductory update on the institution and its plans for the future.
The group also heard about IMechE’s chartership scheme, its electronic platforms for improving the accessibility of its resources, and the resources provided by the library. The visit included a tour of 1 Birdcage Walk and the IMechE library and archives.
The week-long trip also included visits to the Institution of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, Jaguar Land Rover at Castle Bromwich, Imperial College London, Rolls-Royce in Derbyshire and Ford in Dagenham.
Isabel Wong, committee member of the IMechE Hong Kong Branch, said: “The purpose of the visit was to motivate global network of IMechE, to enhance the mutual understanding of mechanical engineering between the UK and Hong Kong, and to appreciate mechanical engineering in the UK.
“The trip was definitely useful for us. It enabled us to meet and learn from experienced personnel, expand our horizon in engineering industries in the UK and compare it to those in Hong Kong.”
