Formula Student 2023 – Adverse Weather Forecast 22 & 23 July

Formula Student Team

Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for the weekend Saturday 22 to Sunday 23 July. In particular, the anticipated peak wind speeds pose significant risks to temporary structures such as marquees, creating hazards to those onsite.

As organisers of Formula Student, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers has taken advice from Health and Safety specialists, Silverstone Circuit and the Clerk of the Course, and will be implementing contingency measures for safety reasons. Depending on the severity of the wind and rain, this may include restrictions on spectator access to some parts of the site, and on the operation of scheduled on-track events over the course of the weekend.

Ensuring the safety of competitors, volunteers, staff and all other attendees is of paramount importance. We will try wherever possible to minimise disruption to the planned running of the event. However, there may need to be short notice changes to the event timetable.

We will provide updates on any potential disruption throughout the weekend, including via social media and onsite announcements. In any case, please do come to the event prepared for wet and windy weather. Despite the weather forecast, the 25th Anniversary Formula Student has been immensely successful so far, and we look forward to an exciting weekend, showcasing the impressive talents and achievements of the next generation of engineers.

We thank all of our competitors, sponsors, volunteers and spectators for their continued support.
