Formula Student Team
2018 marks a big year for Formula Student. In our special 20th Anniversary year we are not only looking back to the start of the competition but also forward to what the next 20 years and beyond hold.
Throughout the week and across the paddock you will see these celebrations of past, present and future. From the past you will see in the paddock a display of cars from the last 20 years of competition including the very first winner of Formula Student in the UK from the University of Texas, Arlington. They will also be competing in this 20 year old car so make sure you see how it stands up against today's competition.
Representing the present we are proud to announce that we will be hosting a driverless competition FS-AI (Formula Student – Artificial Intelligence). With ever increasing demand for autonomous tech and engineers with relevant education and experience, Formula Student is continuing its mission to prepare industry ready graduates by providing a platform for students to hone these skills with project based learning. This year you will see our first autonomous vehicle, the ADS-DV, in the paddock and on the track taking part in demonstrations alongside some student-built driverless cars from KTH Stockholm (Sweden) and UAS Augsberg (Germany).
At Formula Student and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers we are also looking towards the future. As part of our commitment to inspire the next generation of engineers we are hosting a STEM day on Friday With 150 students from local schools invited to take part in Bloodhound activities and a special 20th Anniversary ‘Formula Student Inspires’ tour.
We also have a very special guest attending for our 20th Anniversary year. Formula One TM World Champion and Santander Ambassador Jenson Button will be joining us on Saturday. JB will have the opportunity to see all the engineering talent on display with a tour of the paddock before joining our commentary team to give his insights into the Sprint event. We also have some signed memorabilia from Jenson so make sure you stop by the information point and get your raffle ticket for a chance to win! Book your place via Silverstone today!
