INSTITUTION IN THE NEWS
Dr Jenifer Baxter >appeared on Trains From Hell: Caught on Camera on Channel 4 to discuss the engineering behind what can go wrong on the rails. The Institution’s Energy from gas >report was quoted on the World Economic Forum website and also prompted a number of letters to The Guardian. The Institution also responded to the Government’s Clean Air Strategy and announced that Geoff Baker has become the next President.
From shocking near misses and derailments to rush-hour rage and unique on-board entertainment, the programme explores what can go wrong on train journeys. Dr Jenifer Baxter appears to discuss the engineering behind certain incidents and why the London underground is designed the way it is.
The publication of the Institution’s Energy from gas report generated three letters to the Guardian, including one which outlines that renewably generated hydrogen could supply energy storage at scales many times beyond which even the largest battery systems could attain and another which says it’s time for joined-up thinking on our future energy strategy.
Article which considers the scale of the decarbonisation challenge and the need for technological solutions to be considered in tandem. The article quotes the Institution’s report which calls for more demonstration sites and a forum in which to discuss hydrogen’s long-term storage potential.
News that Geoff Baker has assumed office as the 133rd President of the Institution and has set out an exciting vision for the future of the Institution. Also featured in Process and Control Today.
