The new Chairman of the Railway Division, Richard East, sets out the key themes he’ll be focusing on during his tenure as chair for 2016/2017.

I would like to thank my predecessor Chris Kinchin-Smith and look forward to leading the Railway Division.

The Railway Division is one of the most active Divisions within the Institution and has arranged many events for the coming year both at Institution headquarters in London and seven regional Centres spread throughout Britain.

I recommend that you visit the Railway Division area within the Institution's website for further information and look forward to seeing you at the many events that the Division organises.

The main themes for my year as Chairman are:

  1. Evaluating future challenges that engineers face, and can resolve, as the railway industry continues to grow;
  2. Promoting the benefits of sustainability for rail transport; and
  3. Encouraging engineering students to join the railway industry.

I will be expanding on these themes during my Chairman’s Address “Sustaining the Future” which I will be presenting at Institution Headquarters and regional Centres during autumn 2016.

I would welcome any feedback or suggestions on how the Railway Division can improve the service it provides for Institution members.

Please feel free to contact me at rdchair@imeche.org.
