Budding race engineers welcomed into Lotus F1 Team’s Enstone HQ

Formula Student Team

For the third year, the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) School of Race Engineering meets the challenge of supporting young engineers to gain a foothold on the motorsport career ladder.

The two-day course held at Lotus F1 Team on 1 and 2 December welcomed delegates pursuing careers as professional race and data engineers in the top flights of motorsport.

The MIA Winter School of Race Engineering, taught by current Chief Race Engineers Dan Walmsley (Strakka Racing, WEC) and Jay Davenport (MW Arden, GP3) offered budding race engineers from around the world expert tuition in all aspects of trackside race engineering. The focus of this industry-recognised course was giving candidates not only the technical knowledge they need to progress, but also the direct connection to the motorsport industry and potential future employers.

Following on from this theme, the second leg of the course, running on 8 and 9 December, is hosted at legendary motorsport engine design house and engineering firm Cosworth, in Northampton. There students will be welcomed into the company’s HQ, where some of their finest motorsport technologies will be showcased; from F1 engines to electronics.

Having attended the first course the engineers will benefit from understanding the links between data analysis, set-up adjustments and all-important race strategy to ensure a winning performance on race day. The course is particularly valuable to those engaged in trying to win Formula Student, and has content specifically tailored to this challenge.

Taster workshops focusing on car preparation and set-up for the track will be held at Autosport International on the 11 and 12  January 2013.  The same expert tutors will show delegates how to prepare for a successful season at one of the Motorsport Industry Association's 'Winning Workshops'; ideal for motorsport lovers, Formula Student teams, club racers, motorsport students and more!
