Autonomous Vehicles announced for 2018

Alongside rule changes for the 2018 competition, next year will also host a demo competition for autonomous vehicles!

Announced as part of the team leaders' briefing during the Formula Student competition at Silverstone, the surprise announcement is that Formula Student 2018 will also feature a new event to support the development of autonomous vehicles.

From the notes:

'Formula Student recognise that engineers with autonomous vehicle skills are required for the future. Currently working on an autonomous vehicle event to run as a demo event at Formula Student 2018. The intention is to provide an additional engineering challenge to students, but enable this in a safe environment We are currently working with autonomous vehicle providers to provide a vehicle platform and controlled testing.'

The briefing also addressed concerns about rule changes going into the 2018 season, with talks scheduled between other Formula Student events to bring competition rules in line with each other.
