Are you making the most of your Student Membership?

As we move into the brighter months, we start to organise our homes and lives in our ‘spring clean’. Often this means finding lost treasures and making space for the things we value most. Are you getting the most out of your IMechE membership?

Your IMechE student membership provides you with a variety of great benefits. You probably knew about these when you signed up and thought they sounded exciting and supportive. Have you actively used your membership? Could it be giving you more?

In recent months, IMechE’s Membership Development Team have recruited thousands of new affiliate members. Charlotte Brownsword joined the team in November and has really enjoyed learning about the Institution and all that it has to offer. She commented ‘As part of my role within the MDT, I have the privilege of visiting students within their universities. It is wonderful to meet students with such passion and excitement for the future, which is always in abundance within the engineering cohorts. I especially enjoy hearing about the preparations for our various competitions and how passionate they are about their future career goals.

Remember, your member benefits include:

  • Use of the world’s largest mechanical engineering library. This includes many of the most sought-after industry standards and technical papers, as well as over 70,000 online books and journals.
  • The excitement of taking part in one of our world-renowned Student Competitions including Formula Student, UAS and Speak out for Engineering. Check out the latest information on the IMechE website
  • Access to IMechE’s Support Network, supporting you financially, emotionally or with practical means (on a 1 to 1 basis or through a wealth of knowledge webinars) to help equip you for life outside of College or University
  • Opportunities to get involved locally with your Young Member Committee. This might be by attending their events or volunteering to join the panel to have your say about local events and opportunities. Great ways to add skills to your CV
  • The ability to watch and learn from the wealth of knowledge and information on our Webinar Hub. This includes Impulse to Innovation, now in its 5th season

Charlotte says ‘ As you spring clean this year, I challenge you to try using one area of your membership that you haven’t accessed yet. You never know, it might be something that opens doors to opportunities you didn’t know were out there!’

If you work within an educational setting and feel you would benefit from a presentation, then please do reach out to the MDT on mdm@imeche.org
