Apprentice Automation Challenge
The finals event is a celebration of the next generation of engineering talent, highlighting the creativity, dedication and technical capability of apprentices as they continue to progress towards becoming graduate engineers in industry.
Participating teams will have the opportunity to showcase their devices first-hand, get feedback from industry professionals during formal presentations, and gain recognition for their successes.
The Manufacturing Technology Centre will once again host 20 teams of apprentices from the MTC, Leonardo, BAE Systems, AWE, Thales, Ricoh UK and current champions Niftylift. The diversity of prototypes this year reflects the growing number of teams, with entries including robots, drinks makers, security products and much more: view the full list of teams.
Apprentices will also have the chance to present their work and network with engineers from industry, including senior members of the IMechE’s Manufacturing Industries Division and the IMechE’s interim CEO Jo Passingham.
Joyce Achampong, IMechE's Associate Director of Impact, said:
"The Apprentice Automation Challenge provides a unique opportunity for apprentices to apply their technical knowledge in a practical, collaborative environment while developing the skills that employers value most. The finals is always inspiring, showcasing not only innovative engineering solutions but also the enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism of the next generation of engineers. We are proud to support a challenge that helps participants build confidence, broaden their networks and accelerate their professional development"
About the Challenge
Now in its twelfth year, the Apprentice Automation Challenge invites apprentice engineers from across industry and academia to design, build, and demonstrate a prototype device that automates a common product or process.
The Challenge is a key contributor to the Institution’s goals of helping to develop a future pipeline of engineering talent. It provides an opportunity for apprentice engineers to develop practical engineering, project management and communication skills while working collaboratively to solve real-world challenges. The experience also helps participants build confidence, expand their professional networks and gain recognition for their achievements within the engineering community.
