Apprentice Automation Challenge Team
Registration ends 11 March 2024; join the 14+ apprentice teams confirmed to compete this year.
To register your team of apprentices for this year's Apprentice Automation Challenge competition, simply complete the registration form on the website.
Organised by the Institution's Manufacturing Industries Division’s Young Members Committee, it engages with teams of apprentice engineers to design, develop and build a fully working system that solves a real-world problem.
All teams submit a report that includes a full design specification, manufacturing instructions, user manual and business case. The Challenge culminates in the Finals at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry, where teams are able to demonstrate their working prototypes and respond to questions from the judging panel.
Teams confirmed so far include representatives from BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, niftylift, ITP Aero UK, MTC, Thales, Domino Printing Science and BAE Systems Submarines.
Toby Heagerty, Head Judge for the Challenge was delighted at the response. "I am excited to see so many teams joining us for this year's Challenge in our 10th year and look forward to seeing more companies join us before the extended deadline ends".
The winning team will receive an exclusive invitation to join the The Manufacturer MX Awards Dinner and Ceremony scheduled for later this year. Organised by The Manufacturer in collaboration with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the TMMX Awards stand as the sole peer-reviewed and judged initiative in the realm of UK manufacturing.
They will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Smart Manufacturing & Engineering Week in the following year, providing a further opportunity to show off their work and extend their network of contacts within the manufacturing industry.
