The Strategy Committee is at the heart of the IMechE’s strategic planning reaching into every part of the Institution. It will reach out to, and be informed by, the needs of mechanical engineers, their employers and the major challenges facing society.
As a member of this committee, you will review the external environment in which the Institution operates and shape how its purpose and objectives should be adapted to match future needs.
You will work with all areas of the Institution to understand members’ views of the potential way forward. You and your colleagues on the Strategy Committee will document, and communicate widely, the agreed way forward.
This is your opportunity to be a crucial part of the Institution’s governance.
About you
To be considered for this volunteer role, you will need to be a Young Member of the Institution.
Young Members of the Institution are any Affiliate, Associate or Member who have achieved professional registration within the last 10 years and whose principal address registered with the IMechE is outside the British Isles.
You will use your specific skills, knowledge, and experience to help the Strategy Committee make informed decisions. You should:
- Be willing to speak your mind
- Be proactive and support Committee projects
- Think creatively
- Use independent and sound judgement
- Have experience in strategy development and implementation
- Be able to influence others
- Be analytical and able to communicate concisely
- Be aware of the challenges facing engineering and engineering companies
- Be able to take a broad perspective of the Institution and beyond
