Year to date deliveries are just 1% behind the record levels seen in 2015, according to figures

The UK’s aerospace industry enjoyed a busy August, as aircraft production rates rose 12% on the levels achieved a year earlier, according data from ADS Group, the UK’s national trade association for the aerospace, defence, space and security industries. Year to date deliveries are just 1% behind the record levels seen in 2015.

The figures revealed that 86 single aisle aircraft were delivered in August, an increase of 23% on a year earlier, indicating a smooth transition to the new fuel efficient aircraft demanded by airlines.

There were 19 widebody aircraft orders in the month, compared to 34 a year earlier. There were 35 widebody deliveries in the month, compared with 38 in August 2015.

Engine deliveries orders fell 5% to 120 in the month, but engine deliveries rose 11% for August 2016.

ADS said that industry is focused on stepping up production in response to growing order backlogs, which currently stand at 13,402, worth £210 billion to the UK.

Paul Everitt, chief executive of ADS Group, said: “Aerospace is essential to the economic and industrial well-being of the UK; it continues to generate growth and new business opportunities. Despite some uncertainty across the global economy 2016 looks set to be another year of good performance and strong demand.

“The great work being done by the Aerospace Growth Partnership and the strong support for industrial strategy by the prime minister continues to make the UK one of the best places for the aerospace industry to do business. In the run up to the Autumn Statement ADS will be asking the chancellor to provide the incentives and support to overcome any uncertainties associated with the decision to leave the European Union,” he added.
