Aker Solutions hosted a networking event at their impressive offices in Dyce, Scotland on 5 March 2020, a very good opportunity for local employers and MPD scheme administrators to gain updates and network with local contacts and IMechE staff.

Over 20 attendees represented organisations including Baker Hughes, Enermech, Ethos Energy, Nucore Group, One Subsea, Score Group, Shell, Sonomatic, Sparrows Group, STATS Group, the local Aberdeen Area Committee and Aker Solutions.

The event was organised by Sandra Mulligan, Business Development Manager for the Scotland Region ; she was joined on the day by Anni Broadhead who provided an update on the Support Network and how it is evolving.

Matt Rooney, Engineering Policy Advisor also travelled up from London to share some really interesting insights in to the work done by the Engineering Policy Unit and the plans for 2020. Sandra shared updates on activities in the Region, which saw 494 new registrants added to the ECUK register in 2019.  She also explained the new CPD requirements with the audience and how to access the new online mentor training modules. There was a lot of interest in her session on ‘Tips for running a successful MPD scheme and Accreditation visit’.

Matthew Laskaj, Chair of the Aberdeen Area Committee commented,
"It was great to be part of this event and hear directly from employers about the challenges they face with recruiting and retaining graduates. I also was unaware of the range of services provided by the Support Network will definitely be spreading the word about this very valuable resource to our committee members and attendees at our local area meeting’."

Feedback on the event has been really positive; Sandra plans to arrange a similar event in Aberdeen in September. IMechE would like to thank Aker Solutions for kindly providing a fantastic venue for the event.

Attendees were looking forward to hearing from Alison Roberts who has recently joined the L&D team about her topic ‘ The 5 keys to engaging, retaining and developing your millennial talent pool’. Unfortunately due to the collapse of FLY Be, she wasn’t able to make the journey but has assured us that she will get up to Scotland in the not too distant future!
