Please briefly explain your role, involvement, and experience with vehicle thermal management
Isabelle Citti (IC): As a chemistry expert , my role is to study the compatibility of dielectric fluids with battery component materials and to evaluate the potential interactions with the dielectric fluids in order to select the right materials under expected conditions of the battery thermal management by an immersive cooling system.
What is the top challenge facing your industry at present?
IC: EV affordability, fast charging and battery safety and lifetime , battery repairing and recycling , EV energy efficiency and carbon footprint.
How would you say your industry has evolved over the past five years?
IC: Valeo is a worldwide leader in battery thermal management , starting in 2006 in hybrids air cooling, then liquid cooling for Daimler (smart EV), and extra large liquid cooler for VW (MEB), refrigerant cooler (BWW, BYD), wavy liquid coolers for cylindric cells and now fast charging is requiring new solutions like immersive cooling to avoid T° imbalance and derating.
What developments are going on in your industry that may have an impact on the development of future thermal management systems and wider powertrain efficiencies
IC: Developing better cell temperature management solutions, with best carbon footprint and efficiency and without PFAS content.
Why is it important for engineers and industry to come together at this event and share best practice?
IC: It is important for engineers to share knowledge and skills, having an understanding on the state of the art and comparing different points of view.
This year's Vehicle Thermal Management Systems Conference and Exhibition will return to the British Motor Museum in Warwick on 5-6 June 2024.
VTMS16 will explore the necessity and complexity of battery analysis through differing simulation techniques and offer a system engineering approach to balancing duration, durability, and immersive coolant technologies.
